Cable 10 - Be a Volunteer!

Potential volunteers are requested to call the Campbell River Volunteer Center at 287-8111 to find out about volunteering at CRTV.

Workshops are held for those who want to learn specific skills such as interviewing techniques, studio lighting, editing, camerawork, etc.

Persons wishing to use the equipment to make their own programming can obtain training in the use of this equipment. Some people become involved by being available to run cameras, direct, etc. Others like to create and produce their own programs. Volunteers perform all these functions.

Student employment opportunities

In addition to the volunteers who put in time and effort at Cable 10, we also employ several students as production assistants.

These students are required to have put in several months of voluntary work before they become employees. Their duties include assisting community members in making programs, keeping the message service up-to-date, attending and videotaping community events, and performing playback duties. CRTV pays their wages. In addition to the student part-timers CRTV occasionally hires assistants through grants available to nonprofit organizations.

Several of our student part-timers, as well as volunteers, have gone on to successful careers in television, film, and journalism. Others have gone on to other careers, but have, hopefully, sharpened their critical awareness of television - and the impact that television has on us.
